Joseph Y. Calhoun, III
, Chief Executive Officer

Joe has worked in the financial services industry since 1992 in various capacities, including Operations Manager, Compliance Manager, Registered Representative and Portfolio Manager. From 1997 to 2006, when he founded Alhambra Investment Management, Mr. Calhoun was a Director of Investments at Oppenheimer & Co. Mr. Calhoun holds the Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law) and 65 (Uniform Investment Advisor Law) securities licenses. He has previously taken and passed the Series 7 (General Securities Representative) and Series 9/10 (General Securities Sales Supervisor) securities exams. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine service for 8 years (1983-1990) and was awarded several commendations including the Navy Achievement Medal in 1987. He studied engineering at the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion School. He founded Alhambra Investment Management as a registered investment advisory to address the needs of the individual investor. His market commentaries are widely read and published at various online outlets. He has appeared on Larry Kudlow’s program on CNBC and various radio programs. Douglas R. Terry, CFA, Chief Investment Officer

Doug is a CFA Charterholder and Series 65 securities license holder. He has spent the majority of his career as a proprietary options trader, developing skills in portfolio management, hedging, derivative pricing and risk management. Doug graduated with distinction from Cornell University in 1992 with a B.S. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. He worked for options trading firm, Cooper, Neff and Associates, in New York City and French investment bank, BNP Paribas, in Chicago, before starting his own trading operation at the Chicago Board of Trade. During his career, Doug has traded options on gold, silver, crude oil, natural gas, US Treasury Bonds and individual stocks on the floors of the COMEX, NYMEX, CBOT and CBOE. Doug’s Archives

John L. Chapman, PhD, Chief Economist

John started his career as a Systems Engineer and later Marketing Rep for IBM. Now trained as an economist, he has extensive experience in corporate finance and investment advisory work, with a focus on asset valuation, competitive strategy, and business development issues.  In addition to sales, his prior background includes tenures in corporate strategy and economic research and consulting. Clients have included IBM, Hewlett-Packard, PepsiCo, Kraft Foods, Guidant Corp., and Kinetic Concepts, Inc.  From 2006-2010 John was a research fellow and adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, D.C., where he was involved in analytical work dealing with private equity, and he wrote extensively on topics ranging from monetary policy to economic growth. His works have been published in national publications including the Wall Street Journal, and he has done numerous interviews and speeches on current topics in finance and monetary economics. In addition to his work at Alhambra, he is a researcher affiliated with Hill & Cutler Co., an economic consulting firm dedicated to promoting sound money (viz., a commodity such as gold) and low-tax rates on capital and corporate profits as the cornerstone of a stable, high-growth economy. There he is completing his AEI signature project, a book on the history of private equity and its impact on economic growth.  John is also working with Joe Calhoun on a book due out late in 2012 on investing and capital preservation in a turbulent global economy.  John holds a B.A. with high honors in Economics from Wake Forest University, an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Georgia. Patrick J. Manning
, Head of Strategic Investments

Patrick  joins us after a distinguished career in the securities and investment banking industry that spans almost 40 years. He began with Bache & Co. in 1968 and moved to the institutional side at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. in New York City in 1974. He remained there for 27 years through three mergers to its final incarnation as J.P. Morgan Chase. Patrick began his career in municipal bond trading and underwriting. In 1980, Pat moved  into management.  During this  executive portion of his career, Pat supervised the municipal bond, public finance,  and equity brokerage departments on his way to President of Manufacturers Hanover Securities Corporation. Patrick also spent 4 years in Tokyo as President of the Japanese Securities Company. He holds a B.S. from Bowling Green University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Patrick’s investment philosophy is rooted in both Modern Portfolio and Efficient Market Theories.  Patrick develops long term investing plans which give clients low-cost, indexed exposure to a broadly diversified mix of global assets.  The academic research is consistent, these strategies give an investor the highest probability of investment success over time. Joseph Gomez, Sr. Advisor and Portfolio Manager

Joseph has been a licensed securities professional for 20 years.  He began his investment career in New York City and prior experience includes positions at UBS, Oppenheimer, GE and public accounting firms. He has been active in relationship management, portfolio management, business valuations and advises U.S. and offshore investors on active, fee-only investment portfolios. He is the lead manager of the firm’s Impetus Concentrated Growth Portfolio. Joseph graduated from the University of Miami with a B.B.A. in Finance and is currently a Level 1 candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst program. Joe’s Archives

Juan Marcelo Perez, Investment Advisor

Marcelo started his career in the finance and investment industry in 2005. He worked briefly for Washington Mutual before becoming a Financial Associate with Citibank/SmithBarney. Once there, Marcelo realized the business practices employed at the big financial conglomerates were not of his taste, nor in his nature, so he decided to join a conflict-free investment advisory firm. Roberto C. Lasa, Investment Advisor

Robert joins us from the financial services industry where he excelled for 2 years with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.  He primarily focuses on Family Insurance planning and Investments.  He firmly believes that educating his clients is the key to building long lasting relationships.  He studied Economics at the University of Florida and Florida International University.  He is a 2010-2011 Bronze Award recipient from the Northwestern Mutual for production in a year.

Orlando J. Casariego, Chief Operating Officer

Orlando is the Chief Operating Officer at Alhambra Investment Partners, LLC and is charged with overseeing operational efficiency. He brings a depth of knowledge in project management and operations acquired through 20 years as a principal and engineer at 3C Construction Corporation, a structural contracting concern in Florida. He is a graduate of Tulane University (1986) in Mechanical Engineering and a Belen Jesuit alumnus (1982).  He has been a client of Joseph Calhoun since 1997 and became an initial investor in Alhambra Investments in 2005. An entrepreneur at heart, he began in the family business at age 13, and has successfully operated several ventures in real estate.  In addition to his duties, Orlando also assists in business development and will actively explore opportunities for Alhambra investors.
